Clicks feel like progress. The dashboard looks busy, the CTR looks fine, and then you open your sales report and it says zero. This is the most common problem I'm asked to fix, and it almost never has one cause.

Here are the nine reasons I see most, in the order I check them.

1. You're optimizing for the wrong thing

If your campaign objective is Traffic or Engagement, Meta finds people who love to click and like. Those people rarely buy. If you want sales, use a Sales objective optimized for purchases (or leads for a lead business).

Fix: Match the objective to the result you actually want, and give it enough budget to get conversions every week.

2. Your tracking is broken

If the Meta Pixel isn't firing on purchase, or fires twice, the algorithm is learning from bad data. It might even be "optimizing" toward people who never bought.

Fix: Test a real purchase yourself. Check Events Manager. Set up the Conversions API alongside the pixel so you don't lose data from browsers that block tracking.

3. The landing page is slow

Most of your traffic is on mobile, often on mobile data. If the page takes 6 seconds to load, half the people who clicked are gone before they see anything.

Fix: Test your page on PageSpeed Insights. Compress images, remove heavy apps and scripts. Aim for under 3 seconds.

4. The ad and the page don't match

The ad promised 50% off. The page shows full prices and a generic homepage. People feel tricked and leave.

Fix: Send each ad to the exact product or offer it shows. The headline on the page should repeat the promise in the ad.

5. The checkout is a maze

Forced account creation, surprise delivery fees at the last step, no cash on delivery, a form with 14 fields. Each one kills sales.

Fix: Guest checkout, delivery cost shown early, the payment methods your market actually uses, and as few fields as possible.

6. Your audience is curious, not ready

Cold audiences who've never heard of you need more than one ad. Asking for a sale on the first touch works for impulse products, not for expensive ones.

Fix: Build a simple funnel: a cold ad that earns attention, then retargeting for people who visited or watched, with proof, reviews and the offer.

7. There's no reason to buy now

"Shop now" is not a reason. Why today? Why from you?

Fix: Give a real reason: a limited drop, a bundle, free delivery this week, a guarantee. No fake countdown timers. People notice.

8. Nobody trusts you yet

New brand, no reviews, no address, a WhatsApp number that never replies. In markets where people have been burned by online shops, trust is the whole game.

Fix: Show real reviews and customer photos, a clear return policy, fast replies, and your brand's face where you can.

9. The product or price isn't right for this audience

Sometimes the ads are working perfectly and the honest answer is that people don't want this product at this price.

Fix: Look at add-to-cart rate. Lots of add-to-carts but no purchases points to checkout or price. No add-to-carts at all points to the product, the page or the audience.

How to diagnose in 10 minutes

Open your funnel numbers and find where people drop:

  1. Impressions → clicks low? Creative problem.
  2. Clicks → page views low? Speed or tracking problem.
  3. Page views → add to cart low? Page, product or price problem.
  4. Add to cart → purchase low? Checkout, delivery cost or trust problem.

The step with the biggest drop is the one to fix first. Don't touch the ads until you know.

The bottom line

Clicks without sales is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Most of the time the ads are fine and the leak is after the click. Fix tracking first, then the page, then the offer, and only then the ads.

If you've checked all nine and still can't find it, send me your funnel. Fresh eyes find leaks fast.
