One month your posts get thousands of views. The next month, a few hundred. No warning, no explanation. Most people blame "the algorithm" and keep posting the same way, which is exactly why reach keeps falling.

Here's what usually causes it, and what to do instead.

1. You're posting for followers, but Instagram is showing posts to strangers

Instagram now pushes a lot of content to people who don't follow you yet, especially Reels. If your posts only make sense to existing fans ("New drop! Link in bio"), strangers scroll past, and Instagram stops showing them.

Fix: Make every Reel understandable to someone who has never heard of you. Hook in the first 2 seconds.

2. Watch time is low

The strongest signal on video is whether people keep watching. A 30-second Reel people leave after 3 seconds tells Instagram it's boring.

Fix: Shorter videos, faster cuts, text on screen, and get to the point immediately.

3. Nobody shares or saves your posts

Likes are weak signals. Shares and saves tell Instagram the post is worth spreading. "Pretty" posts get likes. Useful or funny posts get shared.

Fix: Post things people want to send to a friend or keep: tips, lists, prices, relatable jokes, before/after.

4. You're reposting TikToks with the watermark

Recycled content with another app's logo tends to get less reach.

Fix: Export clean files and upload natively.

5. You changed your style and lost your audience

New look, new topic, new tone overnight confuses the people who followed you for something else.

Fix: Change gradually and keep one familiar element: format, face, series name.

6. Engagement bait and hashtag stuffing

"Comment YES if you agree" and 30 random hashtags make content look spammy.

Fix: Use 3–5 relevant hashtags and a natural caption. Ask real questions, not bait.

7. You simply post less

Fewer posts means fewer chances to be shown. Consistency matters more than volume: three good posts a week beats ten rushed ones and then silence.

What to check in Insights

The 30-day reset

  1. Pick 2–3 content formats that already performed best for you
  2. Post 3–4 Reels a week, each with a strong 2-second hook
  3. Make one "send this to a friend" post every week
  4. Reply to comments in the first hour
  5. Review Insights every Sunday and double down on what worked

The bottom line

Your reach didn't die. Instagram stopped seeing proof that strangers want your content. Give it that proof: strong hooks, real watch time, and posts worth sharing.
